Twelve Slopes

Short Video

The video sound was recorded off the mixing board, via USB to the camera. It is the first time I’ve tried this method.

This patch is called Twelve Slopes, because it was made with six voltage-controlled envelope generators: Rampage (2), two Mini Slew, and two Starling Via META in cycling envelop generator mode. All have voltage control over rise and fall time, making for six rising slopes and six falling slopes. They are patched together with twelve sample & holds in the following way.

Though it looks complicated, it is canonical. The sample & holds are triggered by the Rising and Falling gates from Rampage, the End of Rise and End of Cycle pulses from the Mini Slews, and the two pulse outputs from the METAs. Each of the twelve Rise and Fall control voltages are taken from the S&H outputs. Finally, each function generator output is routed to two S&H inputs.

The audio patch consists of three oscillators, each gated through a VCA into a mix patched to the Vult Freak filter in a low pass mode. After the filter there’s a stereo patch through the Make Noise Mimeophon, then on to the Microcell, then the VC Stereo Mixer for levels, and finally through Marble for tone.

Here’s a longer recording.
