4ms Pod 64 Improv Case

Something possessed me to get another small skiff. It’s a 4ms Pod 64, the largest of the 4ms Pod series. I chose it in part for the 55mm depth. This is the powered version.

I loaded it with these modules (left to right):

  • Ieaskul F. Mobenthey Mr. Grassi
  • Razamasynth Unknown Pleasures
  • Mutable Instrument Braids
  • Steady State Fate MMF
  • Meng Qi DPLPG
  • Ieaskul F. Mobenthey Fourses
  • Bastl Instruments Tea Kick
  • 2hp Mix
  • Erica Synths Pico DSP
  • 2hp Verb

Power

The power specs for the Pod 64 are:

  • +12V max 1.4A
  • -12V max 0.67A
  • +5V max 1.0A

I was pleased to find six power headers in the pod (as opposed to four in the spec on their website). I put nine powered modules in there, so I needed extender cables. According to modular grid, the power load comes to 431 ma @ +12V, 193 ma @ -12V. It’s well within the limits of the pod supply.

Playing Around

The controllers, Mr. Grassi and Unknown Pleasures, work nicely together, since by touching both Mr. Grassi gets injected into U.P. I don’t think I’ve ever paired Braids and Fourses, and this is a great combo, too.

The following little ditty, with the patch shown, uses only the Braids, MMF, Fourses, and some reverb from Verb. Fourses is triggering Braids and doing FM for both Braids and MMF. Braids is in Pluck mode, which can resonate all by itself. During the recording I played around a little with Fourses. It starts in mono, dry. Reverb comes in at around 1:30.
