Easiest kit ever? This Meng Qi dual passive stereo volume control came from Modular Addict for $60. I didn’t quite know what to expect.
Two identical PC boards come with a huge 10K dual pot and four sockets already soldered. All that’s needed is the final assembly. I substituted different jack nuts and knobs. The included knobs are fine, but lacked a painted indicator. I wanted to use different color jack nuts to distinguish the ins and outs. Because the jack bushings are quite short, relative to the panel thickness (it’s made from PC board material), I could not use Bananuts. I found that hex nuts got a little better purchase on the threads than the supplied round nuts and used them for the inputs. I put some small black nuts on the outputs. The way the panel is laid out it is still a bit confusing as to which inputs go with which outputs. They align vertically, with two little arrows giving you the hint.
The only other change I made was to cut 1/4 inch off the pot shafts, which are really long.
I got this dual stereo attenuator for a specific use and that was to pair with the dsp.coffee TXn. It gives me separate volume controls for two pairs of inputs with narrower stereo fields. Here’s how it’s integrated into the end of chain mix.
I’ll patch the TXn outputs into one channel of the Happy Nerding 4x Stereo Mix. The Stereo Mix then goes to the Happy Nerding stereo isolator and headphone module.
