Kind of Beat

Kind of Beat patch

No video today. This patch is based on a simple idea: Set up Just Friends as six envelope generators, trigger them with six pulses from Turing Machine, take those envelopes into the VCAs of the F3DB fixed filter bank. Put the odd and even channel mix outputs of F3DB through some FX.

The audio is taken from the main output of Generate 3 over to the F3DB input. The mix of wave shapes in Generate 3 is controlled by three more envelopes from Stages, also triggered by Turing Machine. One key to the sound is that Generate 3 is being phase modulated by a sine wave from EN_129 VCO, whose pitch is correlated with but not tracking the Generate 3 pitch.

Various modulations of Just Friends parameters result in the changing beats, because the envelopes do not retrigger. It is all driven by a steady pulse beat. This patch surprised me with changes in the beat emphasis over the whole recording. As usual, I kept my hands off during recording. In fact, I was lying down on a couch, just listening.

Added a second take, with equalization tilted lower.
