I got an idea to create four sequences of control voltages and apply them to timbres. The sequence generators used were the Blacet Binary Zone and the Encore UEG (both deterministic, repeating sequences), and the Wogglebug stepped function and the CGS Infinite Melody (both random, non-repeating sequences). These were applied to the CGS Wave Multiplier fold function, Miniwave bank selection, Modcan VCDO FM Ratio, and a second Miniwave bank selection, respectively. Each timbre modulator had an associated VCO. Four envelopes were applied for amplitude dynamics. The envelopes were triggered in sequence, but modified by a random element. The results were mixed through two parallel filters, the MOTM 410 and the MOTM 440. Three MOTM-410 outputs were mixed down to produce stereo spacial effects.
For the first recording, Kindness, only the timbres are sequenced. Two VCOs were given little pitch glissandos. In the second recording, Toughness, the Cynthia ZerOscillator and a fifth envelope were added and mixed through the 440. This time two of the VCO pitches were sequenced, and the glissandos were removed.
