This patch demonstrates the use of the Synthesis Technology Morphing Terrarium VCO (MT) as a complex LFO.<\/p>\n

The MT is set to the lowest range and adjusted manually.\u00a0 Its XY output modulates a CGS VCO on the linear FM input, DC-coupled.\u00a0 XY is also sent to a CGS Slope Detector, which generates a gate signal when the LFO waveform is falling.\u00a0 This triggers an envelope generator (one of four in the Mattson Quad AD, configured for A-R mode).\u00a0 The EG controls a VCA for the output signal from the LPG.\u00a0 The audio path on the top consists of the square wave out of the VCO, through a Thomas White Resonant Lopass Gate (LPG) and into the VCA.\u00a0 I placed an attenuator between the LPG and the VCA input.<\/p>\n

Back to the MT, the Z output directly controls the LPG cutoff frequency, and inverted controls the High CV of a Flight of Harmony Plague Bearer (PB).\u00a0\u00a0 Z out is also routed to a second CGS Slope Detector.\u00a0 The lower audio path routes the sawtooth of the CGS VCO into the PB.\u00a0 Like the top path, an envelope generator triggered by the slope detector controls the level of the PB output into the final mix.<\/p>\n

A big variety of sounds can be obtained from this patch, depending on how the controls are set.\u00a0 I manually played with the MT frequency, the Morph X, Y, and Z controls, and the MT Bank selection.\u00a0 Except for bank selection, all of these can be voltage controlled, but this time I mainly wanted to set up a repeating pattern.\u00a0 XY controls pitch, and also the gating of the LPG output.\u00a0 Z controls the filters (inversely from each other), and also the gating of the PB output.\u00a0 Different VCO initial frequency and other filter controls also impact the result.\u00a0\u00a0 The following take was made with just\u00a0 a bit of knob twiddling on the Morph X pot during the recording.<\/p>\n\n\n
