I scored this very cool VC SLEW LIMIT\/LOCK<\/a> module from Hale for my 4U Serge project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The VC SLEW LIMIT\/LOCK is a dual channel, dual mode module that can accurately sample, slew and hold voltages. It is patch-programmable to function as a VC LFO that tracks V\/OCT and as a Random Voltage Generator with stepped and smooth sources of randomness.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Hale’s VC SLEW works a lot like the Serge Smooth and Stepped Generator (SSG), but with added features. Both halves are identical and can do the smooth or stepped function. Like the SSG it can perform slew limited Sample & Hold or Track & Hold. The HOLD (LOCK) <\/strong>logic input has two functions. When in SLEW mode the LED is off and a logic high freezes the output (Track & Hold). When in SAMPLE mode the LED is on and the output is LOCKED. A rising edge at the HOLD input will allow a new value to be sampled with sample size determined by the RATE knob (Sample & Hold).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also like the SSG, the center orange jack is a comparator, a bipolar logic output that is +5V when the left side is greater than the right side and -5V when the left side is lesser than the right side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patch programmable<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Patching from Cycle to In causes oscillation over a wide range. The wave shape is triangular, with a swing of +\/-2.5V. There are two CV inputs for rate\/frequency. The first is the usual attenuverted input, but VC SLEW offers a 1V\/Octave CV input as well that can track for five octaves, with temperature compensation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By patching Cycle to VC Rate, saw and ramp waves can be generated. If the output is patched back to CV Rate, the curve of the output is variable from exponential to log. When patched to cycle, the Cycle output is a square wave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra features<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1V\/Octave CV input<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TIMING<\/strong> output fires a brief trigger anytime either side of the module crosses the value of the other side. It is similar to a zero crossing detector except that the reference is the other side of the module instead of zero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

S\/H SOURCE<\/strong> is a +\/-2.5V noisy saw that serves as an onboard source of randomness. It is a classic noisy saw as found in some Serge and Buchla designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LED INDICATORS<\/strong> show the states of the outputs and the Cycle outs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I requested a power cable with the module connector already wired, but the other end without a connector. I simply added a standard MTA 156 connector, same as MOTM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
