My new Qu-Bit Data Bender<\/a><\/strong> module is a kind of automatic effect. It applies its own idea of random changes, including pitch, direction, rate of repeats, dropout, etc., while giving you control over the amount. In this little demo I am showing off just the Bend<\/strong> and Break<\/strong> features. The audio and video are separate recordings with all the same settings, except I added saturation with the Corrupt<\/strong> feature for the audio recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For source material I patched up a pair of oscillators using triangle waves, tuned together, and each getting a different quantized voltage on every beat. The new pitches are gated through separate envelope generator\/VCAs (Qu-Bit Cascades<\/strong>) and then into Data Bender left and right inputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data Bender is externally clocked at the rate of new notes, and its Time<\/strong> knob is centered, so as to follow the external clock exactly. Repeats<\/strong> is set to zero. The Mix<\/strong> is 100% wet. Bend<\/strong> and Break<\/strong> knobs are set at 50%. For the audio recording the saturation (Corrupt<\/strong>) knob is set at about 40%. It’s really convenient to enable the Bend and Break functions by button. With both of them off, the output is the same as the dry input.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I added a bit of reverb after the Data Bender. The reverb is heard on all portions of the demo. In both the video and the audio the dry signal into Data Bender is heard for a bit, then I enable Bend, then turn off Bend and enable Break, then add Bend back in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
