Working patch diagram for the control section of today’s automatic music patch<\/p><\/div>\n

My work process often involves visualizing and then drawing out a patch diagram for complex control with feedback.\u00a0 The patch shown uses all of the modules from the patch of a few days ago, plus two Minislews.\u00a0 The patch description follows.<\/p>\n

Just Friends six cycling\/shape outputs (envelopes) are sampled by six S&H set up in Mutable Instruments Stages.\u00a0 The six S&H outputs go to two places.\u00a0 In pairs UV, WX, YZ, they go to three VCAs, which multiply them together and feed back to control Curve, Intone, and Time on Just Friends.\u00a0 The six S&H are also re-sampled by four Troms\u00f8 clocked S&H and the two S&H of the Ultra Random Analog (URA).\u00a0 The Troms\u00f8 and URA feed back their sample outputs to their own FM inputs.<\/p>\n

Next, two of the Troms\u00f8 S&H outputs (C,D) and the two URA outputs (E,F) control the Rise and Fall times of the Minislews.\u00a0 Finally, the Minislew EOR and EOC pulses clock the six Stages S&H.<\/p>\n

Not shown is the audio path.\u00a0 It consists of Klavis Twin Waves VCO, Mutable Instruments Clouds, and Erica Synths Black Hole DSP.\u00a0 S&H outputs from the control patch go to the VCO frequency, the VCO parameter (changing wave shape), Clouds Density, and two parameters on the DSP effect.\u00a0 Minislew outputs control the level of the two audio channels going into Clouds, using the Intellijel uVCA II.\u00a0 An interesting aspect of the patch is that the Minislews clock the S&H that eventually feed back to controlling their own rates, but indirectly through the secondary S&H.<\/p>\n
