ADDAC711 Balanced Inputs

Finished ADDAC711

I bought the ADDAC711 kit for a specific purpose (upcoming post). I have an Intellij balanced input module, but it’s 1U and stuck in another case. After looking at several balanced input modules I found a factory kit at synthCube.

The small PCB had the ICs hand soldered, with a lot of flux remaining on the board. I tried cleaning it, but it didn’t clean very well. Maybe it had been some time since it was soldered.

The pots are mounted flush to the panel. It has to be so, because the legs would hit SMD components on the PCB if the pots were pushed all the way in. The instructions said what to do, but without explaining why.

In general the instructions were a little too brief, but complete enough for the most part. A good set of photos really helped. When it came to install the two LEDs, nothing said to put the long lead into the + hole. But a photo showed it.

The board are held together by the header connector and by the two balanced input connectors, which are a combo connector having both XLR and TRS jacks in one package. To disassemble the board, simply remove the four screws from the input connectors and pull the boards apart.

Look for the next post for the cool application I bought it for.
