A Generative Music Album By Giorgio Sancristoforo

I want to publicize this fascinating software application, Haiku, by Giorgio Sancristoforo. Haiku is a generative and interactive music album. It is fully interactive and on its own it can generate 10¹⁶ unique glitch music patterns which then evolve in unpredictable ways. It’s not a software intended for music production but rather an artwork to enjoy and interact with.
From the END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (EULA):
1. NATURE OF THE WORK
1.1 “大雨 — Ooame / Haiku” is a WORK OF GENERATIVE MUSIC: an original musical
and artistic work authored by Giorgio Delfo Sancristoforo and protected by
copyright and related rights.
1.2 The Work is distributed in the form of a software application (the
“Application”). The Application is merely the medium through which the Work
is performed and rendered to the listener, in the same way that a vinyl
record, a compact disc, or a streaming file is the medium of a traditional
music album. The Application is an inseparable part of the Work.
1.3 The Work is NOT a music-production tool, a sound library, a sample pack, a
synthesizer, or an instrument intended to create third-party works. It is a
finished artistic work meant to be experienced (listened to) by the
Licensee. Any functionality that produces, varies, or arranges sound is an
internal expressive component of the Work itself, not a feature offered for
the creation of other works.
1.4 “Generated Audio” means any and all sound, audio output, sonic material,
patterns, sequences, or musical content produced, rendered, synthesized, or
arranged by the Work during its execution. All Generated Audio is an
integral part of the Work and is protected by copyright as part of the Work.
Why pay for Haiku, when you can’t use the Generated Audio?
The answer is simple: to support the artist. Even though you can only play around with Haiku and listen to it for yourself in real time, but not record any of it’s audio output, consider this like purchasing a print of a painting. You don’t own the painting, but you can view your print at your leisure. The really cool thing about Haiku is that you can interact with the work.
